What is Pulp Therapy?
Pulp therapy for kids is a specialized dental procedure designed to save a child’s tooth when the inner pulp (the soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels) becomes infected or damaged due to deep decay or injury. Rather than extracting the tooth, pulp therapy allows us to preserve the natural tooth structure, which is essential for proper jaw development, speech, and maintaining space for permanent teeth.
This treatment is particularly important for baby teeth, as they play a crucial role in guiding permanent teeth into their correct positions. Losing a baby tooth prematurely can lead to spacing issues and the need for more extensive orthodontic treatment later.
Types of Pulp Therapy at Greenwoods Pediatric Dentistry
At Greenwoods Pediatric Dentistry we offer a range of pulpectomy to help your child regain healthy teeth
Pulpotomy (Baby Root Canal)
Removal of infected pulp from the crown portion of the tooth while preserving healthy pulp in the roots. Used when decay affects the pulp but hasn't reached the roots. We remove damaged tissue, place medication, and seal with a crown.
Partial TreatmentPulpectomy (Complete Pulp Removal)
Complete removal of infected pulp from both the crown and root canals. Used when infection has spread throughout the entire pulp. We clean all infected tissue, fill canals with safe resorbable material, and place a protective crown.
Complete TreatmentIndirect Pulp Treatment
A conservative approach for teeth with deep cavities that haven't yet reached the pulp. Used when decay is very close but hasn't infected the pulp. We remove most decay, place healing medication, and seal the tooth to promote natural healing.
